How to Get Your Cooking Blog Domain Name

So, what do you do once you have decided on the perfect name?  You need to reserve the name right away.  The name of your blog is your business name and the domain name is the location that people can find you on the internet.  The address to your house, if you will.

Your domain name looks like www.myblog.com and needs to be reserved with a domain registrar.

Learn more about the Domain Name System in our articles about DNS and What is a Domain Name.

One note really quick – do not search your name on Google or another search engine.  I have seen people lose a domain name when a bot picks up a search quarry.  Make sure you check if it is available on a reputable domain registrar.

Don’t worry it should only cost about $10 to register your name! I trust NameCheap with all my domain names.

Go to NameCheap to make sure your domain is still available and purchase it.  There!  Now you own the name to your blog.

If you are ready to start your blog -you can skip buying the domain separately and go straight to buying hosting and setting up your website.  The instructions are here:
